Koora Karkat
Recycling and Upcycling

Overview
KooraKarkat is my personal side project that is focused on recycling + upcycling what you thought was "Koora" (Urdu for the word: Trash). Koora Karkat aims to bring recycled and upcycled products from materials thrown away in bulk. With multiple material series, we aim to launch products in every series that are not only eco-friendly but also 100% Koora Karkat made! Currently the ongoing series is paper.
Challenge
How can I convince people to use recycled materials products just as conveniently as they use other harmful materials for our planet?

Graana.com runs a series known as Home Stories based on inspiring individuals stories. I was truly honoured to be featured in one of their episodes of Home Stories focusing on my passion behind bringing KooraKarkat and how little differences can make a big impact.
Recycled Paper
Starting off with the easiest yet the most wasted material in every household and in our daily office lives. Koorakarkat makes products like journals, letters, sheets of paper for artwork etc.
Hand Binded Journals
This work involved hours of labour apart from the time spent on making the sheets of paper themselves. Moreover, the detailing for each journal paid an important role in its design.
Workshop
I was grateful for the invite to be part of a great initiative by Happy Little Family for World Environment Day 2021. During this workshop I spent the day teaching girls at Orphans in Need how to make recycled paper and be more aware of the amount of paper wasted by each individual.
